Getting Your Game Room in Shape
Creating the ultimate game room is important. With football back in full swing, it’s about time to get your game room looking right to accommodate all of your fellow fans and have fun this season. It’s up to you how you want to customize your game room.
You might think that your house doesn’t have enough space to create the ideal game room, but if you have a basement that is a vital resource. Regardless of if it’s already furnished or not, you can certainly turn it into the perfect game room that suits your specific style. With pool, ping pong, darts, there are plenty of options to keep your guests entertained.
Make sure you use your square footage wisely. Determine how you want to use your space and map it out. Be careful not to overload your game room with too many things. “Keep in mind that most game tables need anywhere from 3-5 feet of additional space around them, otherwise they can overwhelm a small basement or room,” says interior designer Letitia Holloway of Myers Design.
Lighting is key in game rooms. You need good lighting to play games in your game room. Make sure every table or game board is under a nice glow of lighting in addition to good lighting in the remainder of the room.
Pick the right furniture. If you want to make your game room more of a casual area, choose furniture that suits that. If you have kids that play video games, consider adding an extra set of gaming chairs that are specifically designed for that. If you want your game room to be more sophisticated, select sleek, leather furniture that is easy to clean.
Last but certainly not least, soundproof your space. Game rooms can get pretty noisy, especially during an intense football game or game of air hockey. “Minimizing sound between floors can be done in many ways,” Holloway says. “Review options such as upgraded framing, Quiet Rock, added insulation, sound panels and more with your contractor so you can make an informed decision based on cost and importance.”
