Aging-in-Place Tips for Your Bathroom
Many people find themselves struggling with routine tasks as they get older. Luckily, our team at Home Remedy Houston comprises Certified Aging-in-Place specialists that can provide solutions to ensure our aging customers can stay in their own homes safely and securely.
Showering
Some of our more mature family members find getting into a bathtub harder. Sitting on the edge of the tub, splashing a little bit of water on themselves to bathe should not be an option. There are different aging-in-place solutions to remedy to that situation:
- Installing a U-step, allowing seniors to get in and out of their tub with ease.
- Replacing the showerhead with a hand-held flexible shower head.
Shower Seat
Another issue we have confronted is how many seniors in need of a shower seat choose to use a regular plastic chair in their shower. This can be a safety hazard as plastic chairs aren’t stable on the tub surface causing seniors to possibly slip and injure themselves.
Support
Another unsafe idea is to use one’s towel bar as a grab bar. Those are not stable and rigid enough to support a person’s weight. The proper aging-in-place solution to this issue would be to have a proper grab bar installed allowing the person to get in and out of the tub/shower safely.
Other Tips
Other aging-in-place tips for your bathroom include installing a pedestal sink for more convenience or replacing your toilet with one with a higher seat.
