Home Remedy is proud to present, April’s edition of our monthly Home Remodeling showcase. Each month we are going to take you through one of our favorite projects, to give you an up close and personal look at our Home Renovation Projects.
This month we will be covering (quite literally) a family’s backyard patio. We helped convert their existing open aired patio, into a new small room, that will be used as a playroom for their children. Follow us through some of the before, during, and after photos as we show you how we can help make your home renovation dreams a reality!
First, we begin by examining the project. We want to visualize and understand the goals of the home owner, so that we may achieve their renovation goals. We will also take measurements, get material details, and any possible issues we may run into, so that we can give a proper estimate.
As you can see from the photo, our goal will be to fully enclosed the outdoor patio. Given our experience in the Houston Remodeling Market, we know, the first thing we will need to do is generate mock-ups and file our paperwork with the city so that we may be fully compliant with proper city permitting.
In order to ensure we were fully compliant, we shored up walls and poured in a new Engineered Foundation, as the existing Patio Foundation was not sufficient enough for a new room addition.
Once the Foundation was set, we begin to build the exterior walls. In order to ensure cohesiveness, we matched our materials to the existing materials of the house. This allowed us to build fully insulated walls that match the current feel of the home.
Once the walls were complete, we laid down a 16”x16” travertine floor, to give it a beautiful finish, and create an easy to clean place to play for the kids. We also added new lighting in the room to improve the previous patio lighting, and added additional electrical plugs.
To finish it off we added A/C to the room to give the family a new place to hang out and enjoy the Texas sun away from the heat.
